FAA Advisory Circular AC 150/5340-1M sets the character proportions U.S. airports must paint directly onto taxiway and apron pavement — holding position hold-short markings, taxiway/runway designation markings, and the surface-painted location markings that duplicate elevated signage for low-visibility operations. This stencil reproduces that standard at 10 ft character height (120 inches), so what you paint onto the pavement is what an inspector expects to see under 14 CFR Part 139.311(d) — no freehand guessing on letterform or stroke width.
